The way you tell a story in a screenplay is much different than how you would tell a story in a novel or newspaper article. Take story-telling in a novel, for example, in these stories it’s possible to hear a character’s inner monologue and to read lengthy descriptions about the character’s feelings in any given situation.
In films and television programmes, it’s the visuals that drive the action. You need to engage all the senses to demonstrate what your characters are thinking and feeling. Challenge every sentence you write – is it visual enough? Am I using dialogue as a crutch...

Your screenplay must be compelling. It’s your job to keep the audience wanting more.
To do this, it’s imperative that your lead character drives the action and makes decisions that propel the story forward. If your character doesn’t do this, your story will stall.
It’s a general rule that the more difficult the choices your character is faced with, the more interesting your character will become. In 99 out of 100 stories, the situation your character is faced with and the choices they make when faced with the situation, will dictate how your audience receives that character. These...

Springboard recently asked us to produce a series of promotional videos to help them communicate the benefits of being involved with their summer school programme to both prospective participants and contributors.
Springboard was looking for a dynamic way to engage their audiences while conveying important information about the opportunity available. They requested we capture the footage during their annual summer school recruitment day, as well as during a follow-up visit with some of the participants during their placements. A new vintage fair has come to Birmingham! Organised by Rickie Josen, the fair aims to celebrate and promote small local businesses from across the Midlands. Glacier Films was asked to attend the first fair to produce a short promotional video showcasing all the event had to offer.
Held at the AE Harris building in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter on 25th June 2011, the fair showcased a wide-range of shabby-chic clothing, handmade cakes, make-up tutorials and vintage jewellery as well as live music performances. And with a 1970s theme, we thought it only appropriate to colour-grade the piece...

At the beginning of June, I attended a screenwriting workshop for writers and producers in Bremen, Germany. The weekend was headed up by award-winning film producer Lars Hermann and facilitated by bestselling author and feature film director Brendan Foley. Top Hollywood producer Ned Dowd, whose credits include The Last of the Mohicans, Grosse...
